Earth Day at Mission Garden

Bring the kids (of all ages) to Mission Garden for a celebration of Earth Day. There will be educational activities for kids, Hands-on Archaeology, and Pima County Master Naturalists will show you how you can participate in the upcoming City Nature Challenge with the use of the iNaturalist app.

This is one-stop shopping for hands-on Earth Day experiences for kids and adults!

Explore the Mission Garden Bookwork Path–we’ll have experts around the garden at some of the 20 special educational locations for kids with readings and activities on many different topics. 

Learn from the Pima County Master Naturalists about the CITY NATURE CHALLENGE, a worldwide Citizen Scientist event happening on April 29th through May 2nd. Master Naturalists will share how to download the free iNaturalist App to help get you started in uploading and identifying pictures of wild animals and plants and even bird songs for your own reference tool and to help scientists. 

FREE pollinator puppets, X-Kids Adventure booklets and pollinator garden information will be provided by a XERCES ambassador ( ).  “Xerces is an international non-profit that protects the natural world through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitats.”

Pima County Master Naturalists will be there to tell you how to participate in the upcoming City Nature Challenge (https://citynaturechallenge.org/). Learn how to use the iNaturalist app, see specimens of insects, play with paper pollinator puppets, and see pollinator resources at the Xerces Society

Allen Denoyer of Archaeology Southwest will be doing Hands-on Archaeology, teaching how to etch shell decorations. These free, hands-on experiences give you an idea what it was like to rely on the materials found in the natural world for tools and decorations.
