Traditional O’odham Agriculture at Mission Garden

Saturday, March 19, 8am-Noon & Every Third Saturday!
FREE, with $5 suggested donation upon entering the garden

Mission Garden, in collaboration with Ajo Center for Sustainable Agriculture (Ajo CSA), announces monthly presentations on O'odham agriculture. Every third Saturday of the month, Mission Garden's Maegan Lopez and Ajo CSA's Sterling Johnson will be in the O'odham Garden to demonstrate traditional O'odham agricultural practices and answer questions. By attending this event every month you will get the full sweep of seasonal agricultural practices.

On March 19 they will give a general introduction to O’odham farming traditions, an overview of traditions associated with agriculture, and a description of what happens throughout the year in our O’odham Garden. On April 16 they will talk about planning the summer garden and demonstrate prepping garden space for the planting of traditional warm-season crops like corn, beans and squash. Watch hands-on soil preparation, contouring, irrigation testing, seed selection, and more. These presentations will continue on the third Saturday of each month through the summer growing season.

These presentations are free with the suggested $5 per person donation when you enter Mission Garden
