Winter gardens are one of the most rewarding ways to get into gardening in the Tucson area. Topics of this class include:

  • sense of place and heritage farming

  • site selection

  • soil preparation

  • Irrigation

  • choosing winter crops

  • sourcing seeds and starts

  • Timing

  • Wildlife

  • soil fertility

  • Planting

  • Thinning

  • Mulching

  • Weeding

  • record keeping

  • crop rotations

  • tools and materials.

This class will move between Mission Garden’s Spanish Colonial Vegetable Garden and the Event Ramada. Participants will take home some complimentary seeds of winter garden crops from Mission Garden!
