On the Spring Equinox, when day and night stand in perfect balance, Mission Garden will host its second African Drum & Water Libation Ceremony led by Kevin and Tanishia Hamilton of Southwest Soul Circuit.
This gathering honors the agricultural rhythms of the land, the African traditions of ancestral remembrance, and the seasonal shift into new growth. Through live drumming, guided reflection, and the ceremonial pouring of water onto the earth, participants will witness a cultural practice rooted in gratitude, balance, and renewal.
Water libation is an ancient African tradition of offering water to the earth while invoking remembrance of those who came before us. It is both a spiritual and ecological gesture — acknowledging that all life is sustained by water, memory, and community.
This ceremony marks the beginning of a quarterly series at Mission Garden aligning African diasporic cultural practices with agricultural observances of the equinoxes and solstices.
All are welcome.
